The Taft-Hartley trust is the pension the CBA invented

One sentence in a construction or hospitality agreement ("the Employer shall contribute $X.XX per hour") feeds a legally separate trust. Equal union and employer trustees. Hour banks. Remittance files. PBGC multiemployer insurance. That is not a 401(k) with a union logo.

LMRA §302 generally bars employer payments to unions. The 302(c)(5) exception is how health, pension, and training funds exist: a written agreement, a true trust, equal trustees. Administration is executing that writing every month. See union pension, hour bank, construction CBAs.
